Refunding visa application fees and reducing working hours

The government of Australia has recently announced a number of important policy changes; continue reading to learn what these changes mean for you personally.

Students entering Australia don't need visa fee

In order to encourage people with student visas to come to Australia as soon as possible, the Australian government is offering an incentive.

According to a media statement made on January 19, 2022, "Any Student visa holder who is currently abroad and comes to Australia over the following 8 weeks, will be eligible for a reimbursement of their Visa Application Charge."

Important information:

  • The current visa application fee for students is $630 AUD.

  • Your visa application fee may be recovered between January 19, 2022 and March 19, 2022.

  • To request a refund, you have until the end of the current year.

More information on this will be made accessible on the Department of Immigration and Home Affairs website.

Working hours flexibility

The Australian government has permitted those with student visas who work in necessary sectors to put in extra hours since the arrival of Covid-19. The current concerns with worker scarcity have led to the expansion of this arrangement.

According to the Department of Immigration and Home Affairs website, this entails that overseas students can work before they start their studies and earn more than 40 hours per fortnight in any sector of the economy. The agreement will be reviewed in April 2022.
