The Graduate Diploma in Infectious Diseases Intelligence gives health professionals the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases or to launch a career in infectious diseases intelligence.


You will develop fundamental skills for effective infectious disease prevention and control by focusing on infectious disease epidemiology and control, outbreak investigation, and disease intelligence. 


You can choose from a range of specialty courses in infectious diseases, such as those on HIV prevention, immunization policy and practice, and infection prevention and control in healthcare settings.


Through the graduate diploma, you can pursue the Master in Infectious Diseases Intelligence as well as relevant dual and extension studies.

What you will study

Graduate Diploma in Infectious Diseases Intelligence can be obtained after one year of full-time education or 1.7 years of part-time study. The program consists of six courses in all, including:

Admission Requirements

To apply for this program, you must have one of the following:


  • A bachelor's degree in a field linked to public health or health administration, as well as two years of full-time professional or volunteer experience. This might also be used to describe a four-year degree or longer that includes similar professional experience (e.g., MBBS, MD).


  • A bachelor's degree plus a doctorate, equivalent, or master's degree in a field connected to public health or health management.

English Language Requirements

In order to study at UNSW, you may be required to provide proof of English proficiency, depending on your educational history and citizenship. UNSW demands a minimum level of English language competency for enrolment since English language skills are crucial for coping with lectures, tutorials, assignments, and exams.


If you're studying for an Australian Year 12 certificate, you don't need to provide any additional evidence of your competence (e.g. NSW HSC or equivalent). Your diploma will be used to prove your English language proficiency.


It will be mentioned in your application if proof of English proficiency is necessary. You can do so by demonstrating that you meet at least one of the following requirements:
