The Graduate Diploma in Computing is a one-year full-time (or equivalent part-time) degree for graduates from any field who want to improve their skills or for computing graduates who want to quickly reboot and enhance their existing computing skills.


Graduates with the Graduate Diploma in Computing have the choice of working in information technology or pursuing further studies in computing.


Graduates of the Graduate Diploma in Computing are provided with the fundamental problem-solving, programming, and mathematics knowledge and skills they need to either continue their education in the computing industry or to acquire and hone entry-level skills. 


The program offers students the ability to investigate a range of speciality areas that could lay the groundwork for further study or a new position in the computing industry.


Up to one year may be applied toward the Master of Computing for students who achieve a Graduate Diploma in Computing with a GPA of 5 or above (MCOMP). 


When selecting elective courses, students who plan to transfer to the MCOMP after graduation must be careful to maximize their credit and ensure that their entry into the MCOMP proceeds smoothly. If you require advice, please arrange a meeting with the program convenor.

What you will study

The Graduate Diploma of Computing in Public Management requires completion of 48 units of credit, which must consist of:


  1. 24 units from completion of  compulsory courses, including:

  • Structured Programming

  • Mathematics for Computing

  • Professional Practice 1

  • Software Construction

  1. 24 units from completion of further 6000- and 8000-level courses in the subject area of Computer Science.

  1. Make a programmatically executable solution to a clearly defined problem, then evaluate it.


  1. Display your understanding of the system environment that governs the development and use of software.


  1. Use a range of media to effectively convey complex concepts to a large audience.


  1. Depending on the electives they choose, students will be able to perform a range of things.


  1. Use a range of data modeling, management, analytics, and visualization technologies to make the most of both organized and unorganized data.


  1. Display your understanding of various computer system architectures and approaches.


  1. Many approaches are used to understand and develop software systems.

Admission Requirements

A bachelor's degree, or its international equivalent, and a minimum GPA of 4.0 or 7.0 are prerequisites for admission.


AQF 6 diploma (Advanced Diploma/Associate Degree) or its equivalent in another country, plus a minimum of three years of relevant work experience.


A minimum of 10 years' experience in an ANZSCO Skill Level 1 job
