What you will study

Program Structure

All students must complete two core research units in literature reviews and research methodologies for polar and marine science. Following that, students have to finish six expert units within the stream they chose—marine biology, fisheries management, or sustainable aquaculture.

  1. To solve issues in the marine and/or antarctic sciences, gather, record, analyze, and discuss quantitative and/or qualitative data.


  1. To analyze difficult problems in marine and/or polar research, use the appropriate transdisciplinary methodologies, reflective practice, and critical thinking.


  1. Create customized research plans based on disciplinary-appropriate theoretical and/or applied methods.


  1. Translate scientific information from multiple sources for stakeholders to inform ethical management practices in polar and marine environments.

Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements

For admission to the Graduate Diploma in Marine and Antarctic Science, you must obtain an Australian Bachelor of Science degree or an equivalent certificate from a recognized tertiary institution with a major in the biological sciences (such as biology, chemistry, environmental science, zoology, plant science, marine biology, ecology etc).
