The Master of Dentistry program builds on the technical skills acquired in the Bachelor of Dental Health Science program and is the final two years of professional training required to become a dentist.


The Griffith Dental Clinic and other regional clinics will provide students with academic knowledge of dental practice as well as extensive clinical work.


This program is only offered to students who have completed Griffith University's Bachelor of Dental Health Science (or Bachelor of Oral Health in Dental Science).

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the Master of Dentistry program will be eligible to register with the Dental Board of Australia (DBA) through the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA), subject to the DBA's additional requirements. 

Students should check with AHPRA for the most up-to-date registration requirements, since they may change.

As a certified dentist in private practice, the public sector (including public hospitals and school dental clinics), and the military forces, you will be in high demand. Research and study at the postgraduate level might lead to a career in academia or specialized practice.

Admission Requirements

General Requirements

The Master of Dentistry is only open to students who have completed Griffith's Bachelor of Dental Health Science (1577) or Bachelor of Oral Health in Dental Science (1259) programs.

For a maximum of one year, students may postpone admission to the Master of Dentistry program. Students who wait too long to apply to the Master of Dentistry program will not be guaranteed a position.

Admission will be determined by the availability of dental operatories (dental chairs) and the passing of a clinical and written examination.

Tuition Fees and Scholarships

Fees for International Students:

  1. An international student is a student who is not a citizen of the United States.

  2. Citizen of Australia or New Zealand, or someone who has lived in Australia for a long time.

The anticipated annual tuition price is based on an 80-credit-point full-time study load (two full-time trimesters).

Tuition fees:

  1. An international student must pay a tuition charge.

  2. Tuition fees for courses in which students are enrolled at the time of the census are the responsibility of the students.

  3. The tuition price for students who started their program prior to 2014 is based on the approved program fee for the trimester in which the student started the program.
