The Master of Science in Paediatrics (Research) degree, students will have a thorough understanding of surgery, drugs, and cancer, allowing them to contribute to research in their field or boost their career prospects. As part of their curriculum, students usually have the choice of doing only coursework or a minor thesis.


On the recommendation of the Higher Degree Committee of the relevant faculty (hereafter called "the Committee"), the Council may grant the degree of Master of Science in Paediatrics (Research) to a candidate who has shown they can do research by submitting a thesis with the results of an original investigation.

Candidature


After being approved, an applicant must register in one of the following categories:

  1. full-time attendance at the University;

  2. part-time attendance at the University;

  3. external - not in regular attendance at the university and using research facilities external to the university.

A candidate must conduct an original investigation or design on a pre-approved topic. The candidate may also be required to take a test and complete other duties as directed by the committee.

A supervisor will be recruited from among the university's full-time staff to oversee the task.

Once a year, the committee shall evaluate a candidate's development based on a report from the candidate, the supervisor, and the head of the school. As a result of this examination, the Committee may withdraw enrollment or take any other action it considers appropriate.

Admission Requirements

Entry requirements


A candidate for the degree must hold a Bachelor's degree from the University of New South Wales or an equivalent qualification from another university or tertiary institution that meets the Committee's requirements.


A candidate who can demonstrate other academic or professional achievements that the Committee recognizes may be permitted to enroll for the degree.


If the Committee is not satisfied with an applicant's qualifications, it may require the applicant to take an examination or undertake work that the Committee specifies before enrolling.

English Language Requirements


TOEFL IBT (Internet Based): 90 overall (min. 23 in writing, 22 in reading, listening, and speaking); IELTS: 6.5 overall (min. 6.0 in each subtest); TOEFL IBT (Internet Based): 90 overall (min. Pearson (PTE - Academic): 64 overall (min. 54 in each subtest); C2 Proficiency Cambridge: 180 overall (min. 180 in each subtest).
